Taking hair fro your horse's tail

Collecting hair from your horse's tail

First brush out and clean the tail making sure there are no knots or tangles. Don’t use any conditioners or show-sheen, use mild shampoo only.

Hair which is tangled, knotted or that is not clean cannot be accepted and it will be returned to you minus postage charges.

It is best to take the hair from the centre of the tail, separate a bundle about the thickness of a pencil and tie it tightly with a plaiting band/rubber band. For a necklace or bracelet try to take at least 50cm length if possible, for a key ring or charm at least 20cm will suffice and resin items only require about 10cm. With a pair of sharp scissors carefully cut the hair about 1 cm above the rubber band. Take care not to nick your horse’s tail!

(It's always better for us to have more length as we have to separate out all the short hairs)

Have a plastic bag to hand and coil the hair loosely in the bag. Before posting the hair please write your name, address, email and phone number on a piece of paper and put it in the bag.

It is a good idea to write your return address on the back of the envelope in case it gets lost in the post it can be returned by the Post Office.

We also recommend that you use one of the the Post Office 'Signed For' services, this enables you to track your package, it costs a little more but we think it's worth it, particularly if the hair is irreplaceable.

PLEASE ENSURE YOU PUT ON THE CORRECT POSTAGE. Items with insufficient postage will incur an addition £5 charge to cover collection from post office and additional postage.
